Frequently asked questions
Which Agile certification is right for me?
It depends on your role and goals. AgilePM® is ideal for project managers and delivery leads, AgileBA® suits business analysts and product-focused roles, and AgilePgM® is designed for programme managers and leaders managing complex change.
Our “Browse Certifications” section provides a clear breakdown to help you choose.
Still unsure? Contact our team to discuss which path best matches your role and career roadmap.
Do I need prior Agile experience before taking a certification?
Not necessarily. For Foundation level certifications with the Agile Business Consortium, you don’t need formal agile experience - many learners start fresh and succeed.
For Practitioner level, having some practical experience working in agile or change delivery roles will help you get maximum value from the training. Training providers will clarify prerequisites before booking.
How do I take the exam?
Exams are delivered by APMG International and can be taken online or at authorised test centres.
After booking your training with an Accredited Training Provider, you will receive an exam voucher and details of how to schedule your exam. The specific format (Foundation vs Practitioner) and duration will depend on the certification you choose.
What’s the difference between Foundation and Practitioner levels?
Foundation gives you a solid understanding of the framework’s principles, terminology and practices.
Practitioner goes deeper — applying the framework, tailoring it to real situations, and demonstrating agile delivery in complex environments.
Many professionals choose to complete both levels to unlock full competency and external recognition.
How long does it take to get certified?
The time varies by provider and delivery format:
-
Foundation courses typically run 2-3 days (or equivalent online modules).
-
Practitioner courses may add another 1-2 days (or more with self-study).
Your training provider will publish full schedules.
Will the certification expire?
Some Practitioner-level certifications may require renewal or Continuing Professional Development (CPD) depending on the region/sector. Foundation certifications typically do not expire.
Check your training provider or APMG for the latest status of each scheme.
