Award Categories for 2023

We’re aiming to advance business agility worldwide by defining, growing and uniting the profession. Through these awards, we’re offering recognition to organisations for examples of excellence within:

Agility in Marketing

This award recognises an organisation’s achievements for agility in marketing. Whether your organisation uses a specific framework, a hybrid framework, or more of an overall agile mindset approach supported by a selection of tools and techniques, our reviewers would like to hear your story.

Agile Marketing is about keeping up with the speed and complexity of marketing today by adopting new ways of working. Award entries will be reviewed within the broad perspective of the Framework for Business Agility and against the criteria laid down by the values and principles of the Agile Marketing Manifesto.

Agility in HR

This award is to recognise excellence in applying agility and agile principles in the HR space. The Manifesto for Agile Software Development included ‘Individuals and interactions over processes and tools’ and so the expansion of this throughout an organisation is core to business agility.

Agility in HR focuses on bringing effective collaboration to the core of operations. Our reviewers will be looking for those organisations that live out their agile values, making space to develop talent, empowering teams to self-manage and feeding an innovative culture. Research repeatedly shows high levels of employee engagement bring profit to a business. We look forward to hearing your story around Agility in HR. Award entries will be reviewed within the broad perspective of the Framework for Business Agility and against the criteria laid down in the Manifesto for Agile HR Development.

Agility in Finance

This award will recognise those using agile and lean principles and practices across contracting, procurement and finance. We’re looking for organisations that have introduced ways of working that sustain the governance of financial reporting and control, whilst making room for innovation in the face of enduring change and uncertainty.

Achieving Agility in Finance requires a blend of compliance and reporting with an agile mindset and the trust that allows innovation, partnerships and collaboration to thrive. Our reviewers will be looking for those organisations that have achieved an agile ethos and culture, whilst also defining boundaries for budgets, procurement and contractual relationships. Balance is key to excellence in Agile Finance, so that risk to the business is controlled, regulatory compliance is assured, and a robust legal framework protects all collaborations and third party relationships. Award entries will be reviewed within the broad perspective of the Framework for Business Agility and against the 12 Beyond Budgeting principles.

Overall Business Agility

In addition to Agile HR, Agile Finance, and Agile Marketing, we will be offering an award for the organisation demonstrating overall excellence in business agility.

What practices and techniques are you using in your organisation to support overall business agility? Business agility can start anywhere; in any department in the organisation. It builds from a point of influence; so enter this category if you are looking to spread agility, even if you don’t consider you’re there yet! After all, we don’t believe transformations have a firm end point. Agility continues to evolve, but let’s highlight where it starts and what encourages its progression.

Business Agility is a people-centred, organisation-wide capability that enables a business to deliver value to a world characterised by ever-increasing volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity. It is achieved by inspiring and harnessing the collaborative, creative ways of working of the people of the organisation in meeting its core purpose.

Our reviewers will be looking for examples of where an organisation’s culture, leadership, strategy, and governance contributes to the value delivered to all its stakeholders who operate in volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous environments, be they commercial, legal, technological, social, moral or political, enabling it to:

  • Adapt quickly to market changes – internally and externally
  • Deliver value rapidly and flexibly to meet customer needs
  • Adapt and lead change in a productive and cost-effective way without compromising quality
  • Be continuously at a competitive advantage

Entries will be evaluated against the five elements of the Framework for Business Agility – the elements that can make an organisation truly agile:
leadership, strategy, governance, people and culture.
